It can be a little overwhelming and daunting starting counselling. Prior to the first session there can be anxiety, nerves and apprehension about what to expect. The following post aims to give you an idea of what you can expect from me and our first session together.
Once we have agreed a time and date I will send you an email including my counselling contract, my privacy policy and a client information sheet. Please don't worry about filling these in as I do have copies for you to sign at the beginning of our first session. Please read through them and if you have any questions or information please email me or we can discuss it at the beginning of the first session.
When you arrive the front of the building looks like the first picture. If you are coming for your session during the day please come in and take a seat in the reception area, as shown in the second picture, where I will meet you a few minutes before your appointment time. The centre is closed from 5.30pm so if your counselling session is during the evenings or weekends I will meet you at the front door a few minutes before your appointment time.
As this is a mixed use unit the corridor to my counselling room can take some people by surprise (see third picture). No matter when your appointment time is we will walk to my counselling room together (fourth picture).
At the beginning of the session we can discuss and sign the required paperwork and I will ask you some questions about what brings you to counselling and what you are hoping to gain from our sessions together . There is no pressure or expectations and we will go at your pace at all times.
My accessible counselling room is int the Walworth Enterprise Centre on the Walworth Industrial Estate in Andover, Hampshire. There are toilets available and please feel free to bring with you whatever might make you feel more comfortable during our session together.
If you would like anymore information or photos please email me or contact me via the 'contact me' form.
